Dr. Steward was retained in this case to calculate the economic losses resulting from the injury of a minor Ms. Butler who was in high school at the time of the incident. To calculate the economic losses two economic damage scenarios are considered. In one Dr. Steward assumes Ms. Butler will not attend college and will begin working as of the date of the report. In the second scenario Dr. Steward assumes Ms. Butler will attend college complete her degree in eight years and subsequently join the labor force. Dr. Steward bases her future earnings on National Compensation Survey data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics taking into account her predicted skill level in respect to the injury.
