In this case, the plaintiff alleged that the USPS discriminated against non-minorities in its promotion process. Dr. Steward performed a statistical analysis of the plaintiffs’ allegations. Dr. Steward’s analysis strongly showed that there was no statistical evidence of a bias against non-minorites at USPS. In contrast to the plaintiff’s allegations there was no statistically significant or meaningful difference between the test scores or interview scores of the groups of management candidates. In addition Dr. Steward showed that the plaintiff’s rudimentary statistical analysis was neither valid nor insightful. In particular he showed that the 80% rule analysis that the plaintiff’s statistical expert relied upon was inappropriate in the current context.
